South India Travel Award goes to the Philippines

Philippines Tourism was awarded the ‘Best National Tourism Organization’ for 2013 at the South India Travel Awards which was held recently in Hyderabad. The awardws given in recognition of the
 contribution of the Philippines Tourism in promoting its products through its branding campaign and roadshows in South India, particularly Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, according to a press release.


Philippines Tourism organised three roadshows and one location meeting with filmmakers in the Southern region of India to promote its various destinations and facilitate business deals among its private sector partners.


Ramon R Jimenez, Junior, Secretary, Philippine Department of Tourism, said, “We are pleased to know that our Indian counterparts appreciate how serious we are at growing the market. This award will definitely inspire our industry stakeholders to work harder to understand the Indian market better.”


“Tapping huge source markets like India is one of the strategies towards our goal of ten million international visitors by 2016,” Jimenez added.


In 2013, 52,206 Indians visited the Philippines, a 12.53 per cent growth from 2012. Indians comprise 1.12 per cent of the total volume of visitors for 2013.
