Ethiopian Airlines launches new daily flight to Shanghai

Ethiopian Airline
Ethiopian Airlines has launched a new daily flight to Shanghai using a Boeing 878 Dreamliner, says its chief executive officer, Tewolde Gebremariam. “We are very proud of our continuous service to China for
over 40 years. Ethiopian was one of only four international airlines to operate to the country back in 1973,” he said on thelaunching of the new service on Saturday.

The commencement of the new service will help boost trade, investment and tourism co-operation between Africa and China, Tewolde said.

“Our flights will also greatly contribute to the strengthening of trade, investment and tourism ties between a booming Africa and highly developed, innovative and business-friendly China with 28 weekly direct flights.”

China’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Xie Xiaoyan, said the direct flights would promote increased mobility of people and goods, which was critically important for the socio-economic development of both countries.

He emphasized that the new service would create market chains between the two countries, especially in industrial production.

Shanghai becomes the 5th Chinese destination for the airline, which had already launched services to Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Hong Kong, to connect with 48 African cities and two cities in Brazil.
