UN stops Japan from the wailing programme

UN stops Japan from the wailing programme
The decision to stop the wailing programme by Japan in the Antarctic by the UN has been welcomed by Australia and New Zealand. It is not for scientific research as claimed by
Japan.

Japan was deeply disappointed by the judgment while people who are against this action are very happy with the decision. The case was brought by Australia in 2010 and it was supported by Wellington.

Japan has killed around 3,600 minke whales since 2005 under its Antarctic whaling programme, known as JARPA II said the announcement as it gave the judgement in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Japan has not sufficiently justified the wailing quote it has set and said that the scientific output from the program was limited.

Australia has directly accused Japan of using the wailing program. The Australian Prime Minister was delighted with the result.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key also said he expected Japan to abide by the court ruling.

Australia’s Attorney-General George Brandis welcomed the decision and said he thought relations between Australia and Japan would not suffer as a result.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott is due in Japan later this month for trade talks.

The ruling was also welcomed in New Zealand, which supported Australia’s case at the ICJ.
