A regional flight operated by American Airlines had to make an emergency landing at the Jacksonville International Airport due to electrical fumes in the cockpit.

On Tuesday morning American Airlines Regional Jet flight 3551 was diverted to JAX Airport at 7:40 a.m. after electrical fumes were reported. The flight landed safely and no injuries were reported.

The American Airlines flight with less than 40 passengers originated from Norfolk, Va. and was heading to Miami according to sources.

As per latest reports from a American Airlines official, the flight was diverted as a precaution due to a mechanical issue and also confirmed the flight landed safely. The 38 passengers have since been placed on other flights to Miami.

The Embraer 145 aircraft is still in Jacksonville having repair work done. Three crew members were also on board the flight.

An American Airlines flight was hit by a bird while taking off from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The plane  returned for an emergency landing after its crew reported the jet hit a bird.
The MD-80 jet was flying from DFW to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. The Federal Aviation Administration says American Airlines Flight 1188 landed safely Friday night after its crew reported the bird strike.
The FAA said in a statement that the return was a precautionary measure. It sad American Airlines crews found minor damage to one of the plane’s two engines.
American spokeswoman Laura Masvidal says no one was injured. The flight had 123 passengers and five crew members. They were placed aboard another aircraft for the flight to Washington.
