U.S. Geological Survey updates the California quake report

The U.S. Geological Survey updated an earthquake off the coast of California on Tuesday evening and upgraded the quake report to magnitude 5 on Richter scale.


Although no damage was reported, and it appears not to have been felt on the mainland, the U.S. Geological Survey continues to research the cause of the tremor.

The quake was originally reported as a magnitude 4.6 about 152 miles southwest of Catalina Island.
The temblor occurred at 6:24 p.m. Pacific time. The depth was recorded at 8.1 miles.
