A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 20 Israeli passengers from Istanbul to India made an emergency landing in Tehran. Two hours before the scheduled landing time a sudden sickness of a
passenger requiring immediate medical aid led to the announcement of an emergency landing. The passenger suffered a heart attack for which the Turkish Airlines flight was en route from Istanbul to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Tehran Airport. After waiting on the runway for two hours, the plane departed without incident and continued to its destination.

Flights departing from Israel do not fly over Iran. However, many Israelis traveling to South Asia and the Far East elect to fly through Istanbul, Tashkent or Amman to lower costs and shorten the journey, exposing themselves to the risk of landing in an enemy country. Still, by law, local authorities must treat the Israelis as if they are citizens of the country from which the plane originally departed.
