Bunbury will host action-packed thoroughbred horseracing and an exciting line-up of musical talent as part of the South West Autumn Racing Carnival over the next week.

Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the carnival would feature the APH Contractors Bunbury Stakes and the XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup, as well as the Bayside Beats concert featuring Australian rock legends The Angels, Diesel and Mi-Sex.

“The South West Autumn Racing Carnival is part of the successful WA Country Cups initiative, which aims to enhance the racegoer’s experience by providing support for additional activities around Western Australia’s three country thoroughbred Cup carnivals in Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Broome,” Mrs Harvey said.

“Events like the Bayside Beats concert should help raise the profile of the South West Autumn Racing Carnival and attract more visitors to Bunbury.  They will also provide a fillip to local businesses and the tourism industry by encouraging people to stay in Bunbury for longer and explore the region.”

The WA Country Cups initiative is proudly sponsored by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said it was great to see the Bunbury event develop and expand thanks to the State’s commitment to regional events.

“Royalties for Regions funding has significantly increased the number and calibre of regional events across the State and I encourage everyone to visit the regions to experience a unique racing holiday,” he said.
