In a bid to diversify and develop new markets for tourism industry, the government of Jamaica announced that it will withdraw the visa requirements for Chinese visitors.
According to the Minister of Tourism Wykeham McNeil, China was added to a list of countries, which included Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, Hungary and Poland, that does not need visa requirements for travelling to this Caribbean island.
Last year we registered 2.420 Chinese tourists which means an increase of 15.1 percent over the previous year, and though these are still small numbers, the market has significant growth potential, said the minister at a press conference.
He explained the cabinet expected to relieve some economic difficulties prevailing in this territory, taking advantage of the Asian potential market.
In this regard he explained the Administration approved the conditional exemption of the visa requirements for Chinese citizens travelling to Jamaica with tourist purposes for periods of 30 days or less, regulation entering into force in a few weeks.
Finally, he added the Ministries of National Security and Foreign Affairs will make the necessary arrangements for the implementation of this initiative.
