Rex Invites Expressions of Interest for Air Services

Regional Express
Following the successful launch of its new air service between Armidale and Sydney,
Regional Express (Rex) announced today that it is inviting another round of Expressions of
Interest (EOI) from regional cities in
New South Wales interested in having a Regular Public Transport (RPT) air service to/from Sydney.

This is the second call for EOI Rex has made this year, with Armidale chosen as the
successful city in the first call. Services between Armidale and Sydney commenced on 28
March 2014.

Rex Chief Operating Officer Mr Garry Filmer explained that as part of its regular process,
Rex conducts a quarterly network review, the next one being at the end of May.

“There is a likelihood that the next review will make resources and slots available at Sydney Airport which will allow a new service to a regional city within a 600 km radius from Sydney Airport,” he said.

“We are launching this call for EOI now so that we can be ready to start services early in the next financial year should this eventuality materialise. The new service will have similar thrice-daily flights and prized peak-time Sydney airport slots as now enjoyed by Armidale.”

A proposed schedule is attached.

Local councils are encouraged to write to Rex providing background details of the local
market, airport charges, details of potential partnership arrangements, and evidence of
community support for Rex services. Only cities that can sustain above 30,000 annual
passengers will be considered. Regional airports that have security screening in place must
state their commitment to either having separate unscreened departures for Rex
passengers, or not imposing any security screening charges on Rex passengers.

Those cities that submitted applications following Rex’s earlier call for EOI in January need
not resubmit but need to formally indicate their continuing interest.
