Tourism dirham gets implemented in Dubai Hotels

Tourism dirham gets implemented in Dubai Hotels
A new fee tourism dirham has been imposed by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). This fee will be imposed on guests staying in hotels and hotel apartments per room per night. The fee will be
passed on to DTCM by the hotels after a certain amount of collection is made. This fee introduced in January is effective from today, 31.03.14.

Issam Abdul Rahim Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), a new affiliate of DTCM, said that the revenues raised from the tourism dirham will be used to fund the development of the emirate’s tourism and trade sectors, which includes investment into both enhancing the destination offering and into marketing
The figures of tourism dirham that will be contributed for the development of Dubai were however not revealed.

A fee of Dh20 is charged by five-star hotels, Dh15 by four-star hotels, Dh10 by two- and three-star hotels and Dh7 by one-star or budget hotels, according to DTCM.

Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham is charging guests Dh10 per room per night, while Ramada Downtown Dubai is charging Dh20.

Christophe Landais, regional Managing Director of Accor, a French hotel operator said that the hotels may face some troubles collecting the newly introduced fees from the guests, but he expects success of tourism dirham technically. The fee will move smoothly he felt.

According to Tareq Khatri, the Senior Vice- President of Business Development hotels said on ClearTrip, an India-based travel website with operations in the UAE, that they are charging guests the tourism dirham on top of the price of the room.  Hotel owners are confident that the fee will not discourage people from putting up in Dubai hotels.
