Technology takes the center stage at Brazil’s Rio Carnival

Rio de Janeiro has long been regarded as the Carnival Capital of the world. With the concluding ceremony of this year’s grand fiesta technology left a mark to make the celebration easier for
revelers. The latest 3D graphics have been used to design Rio’s famous float-cars. Architect and float designer Renato Silva used 3D modeling to help artists design floats for the parade. ‘Bafafa’ is the latest in a long list of smartphone apps that helps revelers find their way around carnival. At the City of Samba, the Beija Flor Samba group created another app which allows festival goers to take selfies and share them with the rest of the world, broadcast live on big screens.


Elegant and extravagant in every aspect, Rio carnival is incorporated with music and dance. Street parades, blocos and bandas are held throughout the city of Rio during carnival. The carnival parade is filled with revellers, floats and adornments from numerous samba schools. . Various samba schools compete to organize best floats, costumes, lyrics, aesthetics and great music to depict their themes. The floatees have the most luxurious and expensive costumes, music and dancing street festivals are very common during carnival. This year, tourism officials expected the Rio carnival to attract nearly one million tourists and generate revenue of $950 million (690 million euros).
