Malaysia Airlines search operation in jeopardy following earthquake

earthquake
The sea around the Andaman and Nicobar Island was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake just a week after a weaker quake shook the area said the Meteorological Department after the
earthquake on Friday, 21.03.14

No tsunami warning has been issued by the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Also no damages have been reported.

The quake was centered in the south Andaman Sea, about 113 kilometers east of Mohean on Katchal Island, one of the Nicobar Islands, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The USGS reported a different magnitude — 6.5 — than the Indian estimate.

This is the same sea where the search for the missing Malaysia airline flight 370 is being carried out. Light tremors were felt in Katchal and the rest of the Nicobars and to the southeast, parts of Indonesia.

Another earthquake had struck in the area a week ago measuring 5.5 magnitude at 110 kilometers southeast of Mohean, however no damages were reported.
