Monday, the cab drivers gathered near the airports as a part of the nationwide protest against the recent surge in popularity of chauffeured cars offered by private companies and agencies.
The taxi strike was accompanied by a cacophony of blaring horns and banners reading “55,000 angry taxis”. One of the sources from the Charles de Gaulle airport said that no taxis were available for operation in the airport area.
The busy city of Paris is facing quite a mayhem to handle the inflow of tourists and travelers. International and national travelers at the airports are stranded as per the latest reports.
The massive “go-slow” procession from Charles de Gaulle airport caused a huge traffic jam – including on the busy ring road that encircles Paris – on a busy Monday morning that saw tourists, business travellers and Parisians stranded.
To bring an amicable settlement among the taxis and the private vehicles, the government on Saturday announced another attempt to find some common ground, saying it had established a commission to ensure “sustainable and balanced competition” between the taxis and the VTCs.
