Jeddah Historical Area2
Saudi Arabian heritage and antiquities are a great treasure for the nation and the United Nation’s tourism unit UNWTO is supporting the endeavour taken by the Saudi legislation in
protecting its structure.

United Nations World Tourism Organisation(UNWTO)has applauded the new law which will give the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA)the directive to ensure preservation.

The UNWTO Chief Taleb Rifai commended the steps taken by the Saudi government to safeguard its cultural legacy. These structures are key tourism asset. Initiatives like these will help in protecting historical structures around the world and bring about cultural development in all spheres particularly in the field of tourism.

Cultural tourism is a major attraction for tourists and people are being driven to places which are marked with heritage in large numbers.

The marriage of culture and tourism not only generates income but also helps in the preservation of valuable structures and responsible and sustainable public policies like these are good for all civilizations as they take us back to our roots.

The Jeddah Historical Area included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list last month at the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee of the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Qatar agrees with the new law stated by the Saudi Government.

President of SCTA, Prince Sultan bin Salman said that the UNESCO’s decision only confirms the rich cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia that defines the depth of its cultural interaction for centuries.
