Obama to promote foreign tourism as a gateway for producing jobs

US President Barack Obama is planning to initiate new steps to create job opportunities through tourism. Addressing the issue at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum at NYC, the US President shared his wish to bring in

more foreign tourists in the country to give a boost to its recovering economy. “When it comes to tourism, we have a great product to sell,” he said. “Nothing says ‘Made in America’ better than the Empire State Building or the Hoover Dam.”

 
Two years back, the Obama-led government sped up visa processing of tourists from China and Brazil that proved beneficial for the country. And on Thursday, he tackled the flip side of the problem including long waits at US airports. The US President has asked his secretaries to check and streamline entry process to reduce time.

A White House report released Thursday said the number of international visitors has surged from 55 million in 2009 to a record 70 million in 2013, a substantial growth that has orchestrated producing about 175,000 jobs over the past five years. Two years ago, Obama set a goal of welcoming 100 million international visitors a year by the end of 2021.
