United Express jet makes emergency landing at Wichita due to mechanical defect

emergency-landing
A United Express jet carrying 39 passengers made an emergency landing at Wichita after the pilot found that he could not make a left turn due to some mechanical defect.

The plane was 50 miles outside of Wichita when at about 7pm the pilot spotted the problem. The pilot contacted the air traffic control at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita reporting the problem and the need to land the aircraft.

Airport Fire and Police Captain Marty DesMarteau said that one of the jet’s ailerons had failed and the plane could no longer make left turns. The jet had left Shreveport, La. and was bound for Denver.

The plane landed safely shortly after 7 p.m. and was able to taxi to the terminal. The airline is working with the 39 passengers who were on board, to get them to their final destination.
