Tourists from China will spend £1bn in UK by 2017

visitbritain
It seems that Chinese tourists are contributing a lion’s share to the tourism industry. According to new reports, Chinese tourists will spend £1bn a year in the UK by 2017, thanks to the newly
revamped and simplified tourist visa rules.

Total expenditure from Chinese tourists are expected to increase by 84 percent over the next four years, a substantial increase from the $549 million in 2013. The change in visa rules is being considered as the main reason behind the huge influx of Chinese tourists in UK. “As George Osborne said, there should be no limit to the number of Chinese tourists who can visit.

“There’s a number of plans being put in place to allow that to happen and it’s important that those are followed through and as many Chinese visas who want visas do get them and can come and support the UK economy”, Richard Lowe, head of retail and wholesale at Barclays.
