THE Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) will soon benefit from Automated Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) and Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS), modern technologies that seek to
boost aviation safety in the country.

According to TCAA Director for Air Navigation Services, Mr Charles Chacha, the introduction of the new technologies will place Tanzania among the few African countries using the modern technologies.

He noted that TCAA's decision to update both its surveillance infrastructure and message handling system is seen as a positive step towards greater flight safety and future operational challenges.

"These new technologies have a lot of benefits to our country due to the fact that they will cover a wide area rather than using radar technology which is not sufficient to cover the whole country, said Mr Chacha, adding, "TCAA has made this move in line with changes in technology in the aviation sector and to counter insecurity in air travel".

The (ADS-B) surveillance system will enable "craft directors" follow up on airplanes passing over the airspace in the eastern part of the country including the Indian Ocean.

Mr Chacha briefed reporters who attended a presentation from the Germany-based company COMSOFT Managing Director, Mr Manfred Schmid, on how to use their products, in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
The meeting brought together members from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, Tanzania Airports Authority, members from TPDF and visitors from Germany.

"At COMSOFT, we are dedicated to realizing our customers' goals and ensuring that our state-of-the art solutions are an asset to them. Service excellence and trustful cooperation are at the heart of our philosophy," Mr Schmid noted.
