Level 3 Travel Alert issued in Egypt

Level 3 Travel Alert issued in Egypt
An expanded form of travel alerts has been issue in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula to the entire peninsula by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) keeping in view the latest attacks on the
Korean tourists in the mid-February. A travel restriction alert Level 3 Travel Alert has been issued in the region from February 25 in the Sinai Peninsula according to official briefings.

The alert admonishes travelling in these areas unless people have urgent and essential business. This was previously imposed in the inland areas of Sinai and the coastal areas of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Korean citizens are being restricted from entering and those who are there are being asked to leave the place at the earliest for their own security according the alert issued by MOFA.

Four people, including three Koreans and one Egyptian bus driver, were killed on Feb. 16 in a bombing attack on a tourist bus that was carrying 31 South Korean Christians, as well as Korean and Egyptian tour guides, in Egypt’s bustling tourist destination of the Sinai Peninsula.

As of last week, all of the Korean survivors from the terrorist attack in Egypt returned home with some of them sent straight to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

MOFA is further trying to locate and evacuate Korean travelers in the Egypt area. Threats from terrorist groups have warned that any foreign tourist in Egypt should leave the country within four days or they could be the next target.
