Culture Department Top Managers gain better insight in Quality Management System

Top managers and directors of the Culture Department in Seychelles were given an eye opener on how to apply principles of quality management system within the context of

their respective sections.

Elvis Nicette, Principal Certification Officer of the Seychelles Bureau of Standard facilitated a one day workshop with top managers and directors of the Culture Department to give an in-depth insight of quality management system, the requirements of ISO 9001 as stipulated within PSO (Public Service Orders) and its application within government Ministries. Alain St.Ange, the Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture was personally present at the opening of the workshop.

The participants said “they understood the concept of quality management, but the loophole lies in its implementation’’.

The workshop on quality management system was therefore the ideal platform to develop a manual to ensure that quality management concept is monitored and implemented not solely through its process, but also through output in the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the different respective culture departments.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture said the implementation of quality management system’s concept is pivotal in attaining customers’ satisfaction and increasing output as well as reducing wastage within the Ministry.

Elvis Nicette, Principal Certification Officer of Seychelles Bureau of Standard said the adoption of quality management system within an organisation and government Ministry, ensured “ the task is delivered right the first time’’.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture is, according to Benjamine Rose, the Principal Secretary for Culture in the Ministry, is one of the first government ministries to host the workshop on quality management system. In her welcoming address, the Principal Secretary for Culture spoke of the importance of applying quality management system within the Ministry.

“Quality Management system guarantees work is standardised in all respective sections within the Ministry, and quality service is delivered to our customers. All head of sections will have to translate these concepts in their respective duties. It is important that we take this workshop seriously because it will allow our Ministry to improve our service delivery’’ Benjamine Rose, the Principal Secretary for Culture said.
