The Udzungwa Mountains National Park(UMNP) with peaks that sandwich the lodge was opened in 1992 by a Dutch Prince Bernard, it covers an area of 1990 sq. kilometres and hosts unique large numbers of up to 300 animal, 2500 plant, 400 bird and 250 butterfly species.
