Kilimanjaro National Park is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1989

Mt. Kilimanjaro is situated inside the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, permanently covered with snow. It is one of the continent's most magnificent sights. Mt. Kilimanjaro is an extinct volcano with 3 major peaks: Kibo peak (5,895m), Shira peak (3,962m) and Mawenzi peak (5,149m). GENERAL INFORMATION

Kilimanjaro, is located in mains Latitudes, South of Equator, near the Tanzania-Kenya Border, 45 km from Moshi and 60 km from Arusha. It comprises of two dormant volcanoes, respectively Kibo 5, 8995m and Mawenzi 5,149m above the sea level. Kilimanjaro National Park is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1989.

The Park is endowed with a diverse of attractions ranging from terrestrial wilderness to permanent Glaciers on the mountain Peaks. The mountain rises through lush rainforest, alpine meadows and barren lunar landscape to the twin summits of the Kibo and Mawenzi.

ANIMALS

Due to the Forest nature of lower part of Kilimanjaro, sighting animals is generally difficult. However, various primate species including The Black and White Colobus Monkey, Blue Monkey, Forest Duikers and Small mammals can be seen of which one rat's species.

MARANGU ROUTE

The Marangu Route is probably followed by 90%  of all climbers.
The trek starts at Marangu gate. Porters will carry all your personal items, equipment and supplies and a cook prepares your meals.

Marangu route has a well defined path, which has been well set out and where most obstacles have been modified to make it friendly.

This is a very scenic route with good views of Mawenzi and excellent prospects for viewing wildlife and to reach the summit.
