300 people stranded at Birmingham and Gatwick airports

After the UK banned the Boeing 737 Max 8 type from the British airspace two aircraft from Istanbul airport to Birmingham and Gatwick had to turn around in mid-air.

The Civil Aviation Authority ban on the MAX variant in the UK airspace was announced shortly after 1pm UK time the flight took off.

It was reported that TK1969, the Birmingham flight was
fast approaching Frankfurt in western Germany and was about three hours into the four flight.

Almost half the journey was completed and the Gatwick flight was over the Czech Republic when it was ordered to come back.

At around 6.30 pm local time both aircraft are expected to arrive back in Istanbul and the passengers will be re-booked on alternative flights from there.

Around 300 people will have to wait and see the arrangements Turkish Airlines made for those planning to fly from Birmingham and Gatwick to Istanbul.

Those who booked a destination beyond Istanbul may have to switch to alternative airlines.

Just after the 48 hours crash outside Addis Ababa the airspace ban was imposed . In  the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 all 157 passengers and crew died after it crashed shortly after take-off to Nairobi.
