J&K prepares for booming tourism in 2014

According to a Jammu and Kashmir (the northern-most state in India) minister of tourism industry should see a boost this tourist season as Jammu and Kashmir government has been
working on a comprehensive development road-map to rejuvenate the industry in the state.

The state government is working on a holistic development road-map to rejuvenate tourist activities in conventional areas and also develop new areas, J&K Tourism Minister G A Mir said.

“All stakeholders should be prepared for a booming next tourist season-2014,” Mir said while speaking at an interactive session participated by representatives of tour and travel operators, hotel associations among others.

The minister said strenuous efforts were being made to promote the tourism potential of Jammu.

 
Besides upgrading of tourism-related infrastructure, Mir said heritage and adventure tourism are being explored.

On famous shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, he said that the government endeavours to increase the length of stay for pilgrims and for this necessary infrastructure is being upgraded at several places.

Mir said it has become even more important to make the state as the choicest tourist destination since foreign countries like Germany have lifted negative travel advisories against Jammu & Kashmir.
