German Hotel Industry Celebrates Another Year of Triumph

Another Year
According to review, based on data from over 950 hotels, the German hotel industry shows that 2013 has been a successful year, like the year before. As in the past, Munich, occupying the
leading role with an Occupancy Rate of 78,4%, an Average Rate excluding VAT of 114.7€. 2013 hotel performances were especially sustained by several different trade fairs and of course, the well visited Oktoberfest.

The growth compared to results of last year regarding the occupancy rate is recorded in the city of Regensburg with an increase by 3.1 points, followed by Leipzig with 2.9 points. The greatest growth regarding the Average Daily Rate was observed in Cologne. The greatest evolution in terms of RevPAR is recorded in Leipzig with an increase of 6.5%. This rise in Leipzig is due to important events held in 2013 such as the Profession Championship Worldskills, the jubilees for the 200th Anniversaries of Richard Wagner’s birth and for the Battle of Leipzig.

Observing at the development breakdown by hotel category, the budget section turns out to have been the most successful segment in Germany with an increase of 2.8% in RevPAR. Therefore, 2014 can be observed with excitement, as this year is in particular characterized by openings of hotels in the budget segment.
