Earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hits coast of Vanuatu but evades tsunami

earthquake
The coast of Vanuatu in the South Pacific was struck by an earthquake of 6.5 magnitudes. However it is too deep to be called a Tsunami said US geologists.

The quake struck at (0840 GMT) according to the US Geological Survey and hit at 16 miles (27 kilometres) east of the beach town of Port-Olry.

The quake was too deep to cause a destructive tsunami. It happened at a depth of 111 kilometres. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre felt that had the quake occurred at a lesser depth then a massive tsunami may have triggered off and caused huge damage.
