Travel Alert Issued for Foreign Tourists in India

Many western countries issued travel alert for foreign tourists in India, as India has become a major worry for the travel industry operatives. There have been reported cases of

sexual attack, including rape; especially women are advised not to travel alone in India.

UK has also issued travel alert saying, “Women should use caution when travelling in India. Reported cases of sexual assault against women and young girls are increasing. Women travelers should exercise caution when travelling in India even if they are travelling in a group.”

There are many other retardant factors, in addition to this. Incidents of violence by ethnic insurgent groups, bombings of buses, trains, rail lines, and markets occurs very frequently in the northeast. West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation’s Honorary Director, Mr. S. Dev, said, “Any unfavorable travel advice always significantly pulls down foreign tourist arrival.”

North East region receive around two lakh tourists per annum plus near 25,000 foreign tourists. The whole group generates annual business volume of over Rs 400 crore for each year. However, unfavorable travel advice is bound to affect the Indian economy and travel industry.
