South Africa to witness the landing of the largest passenger plane

In an epoch making event later this month, Durban’s King Shaka International Airport will see the landing of the largest passenger plane in the world. An Airbus A380 from British Airways will take its first flight from London to Durban in this historic journey.

British Airways will be using this jumbo aircraft for the first time. However, global travelers are yet to hear the happy story of a direct flight connecting the London Durban route.

The airline industry experts are excited to witness the giant aircraft in KZN airspace and see the landing and taking off at the Heathrow and King Shaka airports.

British Airlines confirmed last week that it would bring the A380 to Durban as part of “crew training”. But British Airlines has also come up with a publicity stunt in which five people from around the world could get a chance to fly to Durban to race the A380 on the runway before it takes off. King Shaka International spokesman Colin Naidoo said it would be a historic moment for the A380 to land at the airport.

Vital figures of the Airbus A380:
Range: 15,700 km
Typical Seating: 525 (3-class)
Wing Span: 79.75 m
Overall length: 72.72 m
Height: 24.09 m
