As the recent study reveals, Italy became the most sought after destination for the free independent travellers of Spain. Spanish prefer their own country as the second best followed
by United States, the United Kingdom, and Portugal. Italy grabbed the first place replacing the United States to the third spot.

Leading destinations for Spain’s fully independent travellers (FIT) in 2013 were Italy, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Portugal. Italy took top position in 2013 pushing the United States into third. An increasing amount of accommodation options at great rates saw Spain rise three places in the list.

The popularity of the UK and Portugal saw them move into the top five last year, edging out France, with room nights booked in Portugal showing the greatest year on year growth. Japan and Australia also showed double digit growth in 2013 with the number of room nights booked in these destinations increasing 43% and 27% respectively.

According to the record published by TravelCube, whether it is business trips or pleasure the Spanish chose Italy for its diverse appeals and the rise of easy travel bookings. Moreover the study also reveals that the confidence of independent travellers in Spain have increased more trips to long haul destinations like Australia and Japan.
