
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway came to a complete standstill as 5000 passengers were stranded at the general bus stand due to fresh snow fall in the Kashmir valley. Traffic remained
suspended in the highway which led to the passengers being stuck in the General Bus Stand.
The boarder road organization is clearing the snow and will clear the highway soon to regularize traffic movement.
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tweeted that the situation is being brought under control and the government is taking every measure to monitor the weather situation. A team has been kept ready to restore electricity in case of failure. However he said that it will get difficult to restore electricity while it is snowing.
Many villages have been cut off from mainland. No vehicle is being allowed to proceed through Kashmir while vehicles including trucks and passengers taxis are stranded at Nagrota, Udhampur, Batote, Banihal and Qazigund.
Slippery roads have suspended traffic movement from Jammu-Srinagar national highway, Jawahar tunnel and Patnitop areas.
